Creating a Made-to-Measure Berber Rug: From Idea to Weaving
Sometimes the ideal piece does not exist yet. A living room with unusual proportions, a very long hallway, a precise colour palette or a pattern you have in mind: made to measure lets you have a Berber rug woven exclusively for your home, by our artisans in the Middle Atlas.
1. Preparing your project
A good project starts with a few simple details. The more precise your request, the more precise the quote.
- The desired dimensions: measure the area to cover and mark the outline on the floor with masking tape to check the proportions.
- The style: a Beni Ouarain with a generous pile, a denser Mrirt, minimal or richer patterns.
- The colours: photos of your room, sofa or curtains help choose the right wool shades.
- Your inspiration: a sketch, a photo of a rug from our selection that you love, or simply a few words.
2. Quote and approval
We review your request with our artisans to check its feasibility, then send you a detailed quote. This is the time to fine-tune the final details together: dimensions, thickness, colours, patterns. Nothing starts without your approval.
3. The weaving
Once the quote is approved, weaving begins on a traditional wooden loom. The artisan knots the wool by hand, row after row, following the agreed design. This meticulous stage usually takes 8 to 12 weeks depending on the size and complexity of the rug: the time it takes to make a durable piece, built to last for years.
4. Inspection and delivery
When your rug is finished, it is carefully inspected before being shipped to your door. Like any hand-knotted piece, it will show the slight irregularities that give the Berber rug its charm and authenticity.
Our tips for a successful made-to-measure rug
If you hesitate between two sizes, choose the larger one: a rug that is too small is the most common mistake. Think about how the room is used, too: a long pile for the comfort of a living room or bedroom, a shorter pile for a high-traffic area. Finally, plan ahead: if you need your rug by a specific date, contact us early enough to allow for the weaving time.
