Discover custom-madeThe Mrirt takes its name from the M'rirt region of the Middle Atlas, between Khénifra and Azrou. Weavers there carry on a craft close to that of Beni Ouarain rugs, but with tighter knotting that produces a finer, more regular rug. Often plain or decorated with tone-on-tone geometric motifs, the Mrirt is prized for its restraint: it dresses a room without ever weighing it down.
The Mrirt is hand-knotted from sheep's wool. Its tight knots and shorter pile give it a velvety touch, great density and excellent durability. Long made in natural tones, it now also comes in deeper shades – grey, beige, blue – that suit contemporary interiors.
Thanks to its lower pile, the Mrirt is ideal for hallways and under a dining table, where chairs slide easily. In a living room, it adds warmth without overloading a décor already rich in patterns. In a bedroom, a large plain rug creates a soft, calming base.
Both come from the Middle Atlas and are hand-knotted in wool. The Beni Ouarain has a long, thick pile with brown or black graphic lines on a cream background. The Mrirt has tighter knots and a shorter pile: it is finer, denser and often plain or tone-on-tone.
Yes, it is one of its strengths: its lower pile lets chairs slide easily. Choose a size that extends at least 60 cm around the table so the chairs stay on the rug.
Vacuum without a rotating brush, in the direction of the pile. For stains, blot with a clean cloth and a little lukewarm water, without rubbing. Professional cleaning every one to two years keeps it soft.
